Guidelines for Guest Posting
You know how it goes. Guest-posting can be one of the easiest, cheapest, and most effective ways to get some highly-targeted traffic to your site. If you want to guest post here, I’m happy to serve up relevant, on-target content for my readers, so long as you adhere to the following guidelines:
Length. The posts on our website are usually pretty long. You don’t need to write an essay, but we’re not interested in “news”-type posts that don’t give specific advice. Shoot for at least 700-1,000 words if you can, and you should be fine. If it’s outside of these numbers, send it over anyway, and I’ll let you know.
Depth. Our readers have come to expect a certain level of quality: high. Give us actionable steps, awesome advice, and very specific guidelines to follow.
On target. Our website is mostly about writing and building online platforms, but by definition we’re also about living well–which includes eating right, working out, and generally “hacking” your writing life and author career to be more productive. Please keep your post “on target.”
That’s pretty much it for the actual content.
Guidelines for submitting:
Format. There’s a form on the right side of this page which will let you create a “contributor” account. Once you’re in, just log in to the our dashboard and write and save your post. I’ll read it and schedule it, and you’ll be able to see when it’s going live! (If there are any changes requested, we’ll let you know.
Images. I don’t want to get sued, so make sure that you have the rights to use any images within the posts or make sure you give credit to the artist.
Completed post. I don’t mind if you send a completed post–I actually recommend it. If you want to send some ideas, though, to improve your chances of a post’s being accepted, send a few ideas or titles over and we’ll discuss.
Deadlines. I want to make it easy for you to use these guest posts as a marketing tool, so give a date or date range that you would like to see your post live. I’m usually pretty open to moving things around.
Links. Include a few links to your site/blog. It’s the way of the Internet, and I’m fine with a little self-promotion. However, keep it minimal and reasonable. I’ll let you (and me, when I read through it) decide what’s considered “reasonable.”
Be okay with some edits. I’m a fiend when it comes to typos and grammatical mistakes, so proofread your article and rewrite it a few times before you submit. I’ll change things if I feel it’s necessary, but I’ll keep the integrity of your post intact.
Byline. Definitely include a byline. It makes this whole “guest posting” thing worthwhile for you. Keep it to 2-3 sentences, though. Thanks!
Submission. Please submit the post (or post ideas) to me by saving them in the WordPress dashboard — I’ll see them!
